Digital Fountain

FREMONT, Calif. – August 1, 2008 Digital Fountain, Inc., a leading provider of advanced standardized solutions for digital media delivery, today announced that its theory paper, “Raptor Codes,” received the 2007 ComSoc & Information Theory Joint Paper Award. Winners were selected based on overall quality, originality, utility, and timeliness, covering the interests and achieving the values of both the IEEE Communications Society and Information Theory Society in the advancement of technology.

Authored by Dr. Amin Shokrollahi, chief scientist at Digital Fountain and an IEEE Fellow, the paper explores Raptor™ codes, which efficiently and effectively provide reliability in data networks. So well regarded is this innovation, that leading international standards bodies including DVB, 3GPP and IETF have adopted Raptor as a standard.  Raptor is currently utilized by Digital Fountain’s Splash streaming video delivery network, ToughStream™ IPTV solution, and mobile file delivery solutions. As the world’s most advanced forward error correction (FEC) code for data networks, Raptor optimally protects streaming media or data distribution applications from the effects of packet loss, regardless of the loss source.  Raptor FEC technology guarantees error-free delivery in end-to-end communications over any data network, enhancing the quality of streaming content or accelerating the delivery of data .

“It has been an exciting time in the multimedia broadcasting and mobile industries with extremely rapid developments in digital media delivery over networks,” said Shokrollahi. “Digital Fountain has been a leader in those developments and we are pleased to be in a position where we can share our insights and successes. This award recognizes the dedication and thought leadership of the Digital Fountain team.”
