Pirelli’s IPTV portfolio comprises a family of state-of the-art IPTV HDTV Set Top Boxes which incorporate advanced capabilities for Quality of Experience (QoE) assurance. Such capabilities will now also comprise the support of Digital Fountain’s ToughStream solution, allowing Operators to enhance the IPTV service quality, and ultimately its reach and footprint.
Digital Fountain’s ToughStream is an advanced application-layer software solution that eliminates video and audio degradation caused by network impairments, including packet loss. The ToughStream solution features Digital Fountain’s RaptorTM technology, which has been adopted by several IPTV standards, including DVB-IPTV (Digital Video Broadcasting – IPTV). On the head end, ToughStream can be deployed without impacting existing multicast and VoD servers, and requires no changes to signaling infrastructure and existing services. The ToughStream functionality can be activated on any Pirelli IPTV Set Top Box already operating in the field, through a simple remote software upgrade.
