Raptor 10
Raptor 10 is a systematic fountain code that supports a wide range of source block sizes. As a systematic code, the encoded symbols are comprised of symbols from the data source, combined with repair symbols that are generated from the source symbols. The linear time algorithms for both encoding and decoding are very efficient.
Raptor 10 is an excellent choice for a wide range of data streaming and file delivery applications. Its flexibility allows excellent application performance in all network conditions. Raptor 10 has been included in many standards supported by the IETF, 3GPP and DVB. These include the AL-FEC technology for IPTV:
DVB IPTV AL-FEC
DVB content download services
It is also in the link layer and AL-FEC technology standards for mobile and satellite communications:
3GPP MBMS
DVB-H/SH IPDC
DVB RCS
Raptor 10 is a great technology for DVB, IPTV and other mobile applications that require high performance in varying network conditions and compliance to standards.
Raptor 11
Raptor 11, though not in the standards, builds upon and enhances the capabilities of Raptor 10. It shares the same application programming interface as Raptor 10. It has all the efficiencies and resiliency to arbitrary data loss inherent in Raptor 10. The primary enhancements that Raptor 11 has compared to Raptor 10 include:
Improved encoder and decoder efficiencies resulting in reduced code overhead (enables faster speeds or uses less bandwidth).
Support for a wider range of source symbols in a source block, providing more flexibility to apply to a wider range of streaming and file delivery applications.
Raptor 11 is an excellent choice for applications that want to maximize efficiency and performance in poor and unreliable network conditions. It is used in many government and defense applications.
